DESTINATIONS
SOUTH AFRICA
With our dedicated teams based in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Team Travel Management is second to none in tailoring tours to South Africa. With the love of sport exhibited by the country and its passion for rugby, cricket, hockey, tennis, swimming, and water polo, we are in a great position to tee up the best fixtures for your group. Add the diverse cultural and sightseeing opportunities, together with the strength of the Pound against the Rand and you have a perfect touring option. South Africa is a country on the southernmost tip of the African continent. Inland safari destination Kruger National Park is populated by big game. The Western Cape offers beaches, lush winelands around Stellenbosch and Paarl, craggy cliffs at the Cape of Good Hope, forest and lagoons along the Garden Route, and the city of Cape Town, beneath flat-topped Table Mountain.
BEST TIME TO TOUR: South Africa is the ideal place to visit for pre-season training, taking advantage of the winter months of June – September.
THE NETHERLANDS
Looking for the number one hockey destination? Well, here it is. Watch the Dutch hockey sides and see why we recommend the Netherlands as the hockey destination of choice. It also offers state of the art facilities with plenty to do and see during your free time. Cycling is civilized in the Netherlands. You can go off-road without worrying about getting a flat tyre because the cycle paths are surfaced. Amsterdam is charming with its tall narrow buildings lining the canals and the narrow streets. Almost everyone speaks English – and probably another couple of languages for good measure. The Netherlands is small and getting around is easy with short distances, allowing you to fit a great deal in your itinerary. If you are visiting the Netherlands in the spring, make sure you make time to watch a pro EHL match or in the autumn a Hoofdeklasse hockey match.
BEST TIME TO TOUR: We recommend traveling during March and April (towards the end of Dutch season after the really cold weather) or during September and October (start of the Dutch season).
PORTUGAL
School trips to Portugal have grown in popularity due to the country’s diverse culture and phenomenal landscape. Football is taken very seriously in Portugal, and they play at a high level, allowing for great competition and wonderful training and experience for students. Not only will you find a high level of school football, but you will be able to immerse yourself in the culture. Don’t miss out on the great experience that Portugal has to offer.
BEST TIME TO TOUR: The best time to visit Portugal for sports tours is between September and June, thus avoiding the hottest, busiest, and most expensive months of July and August.
SPAIN
Spain is nothing if not enthusiastic about sport, with football and basketball all but national obsessions.
There are also plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the country’s stunning outdoors or submerge yourself in the culture of the different regions of Spain.
Football is the most popular spectator and participant sport in Spain. However, hockey, tennis, netball, and swimming are also played by Spanish schools making this, together with the warm climate, picturesque landscape, and cultural opportunities; an excellent place to visit on the UK’s doorstep.
BEST TIME TO TOUR: April, May, June, September, and October are very good for travel. If you want to visit cities in northern Spain near the Atlantic, such as San Sebastian, Oviedo, and Santiago de Compostela and the rest of Galicia, the months of July and August are the best. Barcelona, the Costa Brava, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands are best from May to September. The Costa del Sol and Almeria are the best places to visit during winter because they are the warmest.
MALAYSIA & SINGAPORE
Sports in Malaysia are a popular part of Malaysian culture, from both the participation and spectating aspect. Malaysians from different walks of life join in a wide variety of sports for recreation, as well as for competition. It is a great place and there is nothing you won’t be able to find in this melting pot of cultures. You will find rollercoasters in shopping malls, monkeys lazing about in trees and the one thing you absolutely can’t miss, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. The most scenic feature of the two identical towers is the highest skybridge in the world, connecting the two giants. Don’t miss out on the most amazing view of Kuala Lumpur. Whether you like Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, or Thai food, the little “Malaysian” hawker-style food courts have everything for you for just a handful of ringgits. Whilst in Asia, why not sample a different culture by flying to nearby Singapore. Visit Sentosa Island, Singapore’s night safari or the Harbour where
you can eat, shop, or relax.
BEST TIME TO TOUR: Generally, Malaysia and Singapore are hot and humid all year round. The recommended time to visit Malaysia is March through to October, and for Singapore from June through to August. It is not recommended for sporting groups to travel during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan (the fasting months vary every year).
